Because of their biocompatibility and desirable mechanical properties, chitosan along with other materials like hydroxyapatite and polycaprolactone have been studied and used as tor create engineered matrices--'scaffolds'--for artificially growing tissue for medical uses in tissue and organ repair. This new monograph in the ASME-Momentum Press series on Biomedical and Nanomedical Technologies, will discuss the latest uses of computer-aided technologies for designing such scaffolds and performing characterization to create desired mechanical and physical properties.
