En savoir plus sur le livre
A murder plot rooted in the wild mountains of Ethiopia resurfaces in modern Jerusalem as a serial killer targets a prominent Beta Israel family. Israeli intelligence agent Maya Rimon faces racial politics, police corruption, and human trafficking while racing to stop the killer before he annihilates the entire family. The key to solving the series of brutal murders lies in a buried diary discovered by a refugee in a UN camp. Maya partners with Ethiopian activist lawyer Dani Solomon to track down the murderer, who has focused on the Ethiopian Jewish family of Moshe Aklilu, a member of the Knesset. The killer leaves cryptic clues on the victims: slash wounds from a double-edged ceremonial knife, images of hyenas, and vengeful spirit animals linked to Ethiopian Jewish culture. Given Aklilu's political status, Maya, an elite intelligence agent, takes on the case, competing with her rival, Sarit Levine, Chief Inspector of the Jerusalem Police. Sarit, biased against black Jews, suspects a gang-related motive, while Maya believes there's a more sinister agenda at play. Infused with Ethiopian folklore, including curses and witchcraft, the narrative delves into the theme of racism among various Israeli Jewish tribes and within Maya’s own family, as her relationship with Dani deepens and these social tensions become increasingly personal.
