Beowulf is an Old English epic poem set in 6th-century pagan Scandinavia. It follows Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, as he aids Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, in defeating the monster Grendel, who has been terrorizing the mead hall Heorot. Beowulf's victory makes him a celebrated folk hero.
