John Kendrick Bangs, an American humorist and satirist, was born in Yonkers, New York, and educated at Columbia College, where he became the editor of its literary magazine. After earning a degree in Political Science, he briefly attended Columbia Law School before transitioning to a career in journalism as Associate Editor of Life. His contributions to the magazine and various humor publications during the late 19th century marked the beginning of his literary career, leading to the publication of his first books.
