En savoir plus sur le livre

Gaston Louis Alfred Leroux, born on May 6, 1868, in Paris, France, studied Law and graduated in 1889. He inherited a fortune but spent it extravagantly. In 1890, he began his career as a court reporter and theater critic for L'Echo de Paris, later becoming an international correspondent for Le Matin. His notable coverage included the Russian Revolution in 1905 and the use of the former Paris Opera as cells for prisoners during the Paris Commune. In 1907, Leroux shifted to fiction, publishing his first novel, the Mystery of the Yellow Room, which began the Adventures of Rouletabillet series. He wrote prolifically until the mid-1920s, gaining popularity in France and abroad through translations. Recognizing the potential of the film industry, he co-founded a film company, Societe des Cineromans, in 1919 to adapt his novels into films. His works are often compared to those of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Edgar Allan Poe. The Phantom of the Opera remains a classic, continually adapted across various media. In 1902, Leroux was honored with the Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur by the French State. He passed away in Nice, France, on April 15, 1927.
