Set against the backdrop of 1938 Germany, the story follows Annelies Magen, an 18-year-old Jewish girl accused of espionage, who is sent to England by her parents to escape persecution. Tragically, she never reunites with them. Through a blend of family history and personal memoir, David Godwin, Annelies's son and a former chaplain, explores the Magen family's experiences during the war while reflecting on his own identity as a Christian with Jewish heritage.
