Kirman and the Qajar Empire

Focusing on the Kirmani local elites, this book examines their role in mediating political, economic, and social changes during Iran's transition from the Qajar Empire to World War I. It challenges traditional economic integration models by highlighting how Iranians actively reshaped their communities amid imperialism and transnational connections. Utilizing unique local historical writings and various archival sources, it explores household factionalism and estate building over four generations, providing valuable insights into the local dimensions of modernity in Kirman.
