Measuring the b-lifetime using inclusive Jpsi at CDF

The dissertation focuses on measuring the average lifetime of B hadrons through B --> J/psi X decays in proton-antiproton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. Utilizing a high statistics sample with an integrated luminosity of 10.1 pb-1, the analysis employs a silicon vertex detector to reconstruct decay vertices. The resulting average b-hadron lifetime is found to be 1.46 ± 0.06 ps, marking the first such measurement at a hadron collider. This research highlights the feasibility of studying b-quark production in environments with low branching ratios.
