The Gadfly

Set in 1840s Italy during Austrian dominance, the narrative follows Arthur Burton, a passionate member of the Youth movement, as he navigates political turmoil and personal conflicts. His adversary, Padre Montanelli, represents the oppressive forces against which Arthur rebels. Interwoven with themes of faith and disillusionment, the story also explores a tragic romance with Gemma, highlighting the struggles of revolution and the quest for heroism amidst societal upheaval.
