Resistance in an Amazonian Community

The Huaorani of eastern Ecuador confront significant challenges from globalization and capitalism, particularly regarding their territory threatened by oil exploitation. In response, they established a political organization in 1991 to protect their rights and land. The author examines the dynamics within this organization, highlighting the tensions between traditional egalitarian values and the imposed hierarchical structures. This study offers valuable insights for those engaged in cultural preservation and environmental conservation efforts.
