King, Ship, and Sword

Set in December 1801, the story follows Captain Alan Lewrie of the Royal Navy as he grapples with life on half-pay after the Peace of Amiens ends the war with Napoleon. Struggling with the monotony of peacetime, he faces the prospect of returning to a home life filled with disdain from his wife and in-laws.
