Focusing on the transnational impact of Robert Burns, this critical study explores his significant relationship with the United States from 1786 to 1866. It highlights how Burns' poetry was reprinted in American cities, influenced local poets, and was embraced by diverse groups, including abolitionists and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. By adopting an Atlantic Studies perspective, the book repositions Burns from a national figure to a transnational icon, examining the reception and cultural memory of his works in American society.
