Set during the Civil War's final days, the narrative follows Drew Rennie, a seasoned cavalry scout, as he navigates the challenges of war and family. After leaving his harsh grandfather, Drew must also protect his impulsive cousin Boyd, who has joined the ranks at just fifteen. Their journey, alongside the pragmatic and humorous Texas trooper Anson Kirby, takes them through intense campaigns in Kentucky and Tennessee, revealing the harsh realities of conflict and the bonds formed in adversity.
