The book explores the excitation of surface plasmons in plasmonic nanostructures, beginning with an introduction to propagating surface plasmon polaritons and localized surface plasmons. It presents a novel mechanism for achieving complete spectral gaps without periodicity through the coupling of modes. The concept of plasmonic potentials is introduced, showcasing beam shaping in modulated structures. Additionally, it examines scattering patterns and optically-induced magnetic responses, achieving unidirectional scattering and polarization-independent Fano resonances. Future challenges and developments are also discussed.
