Set in postwar Budapest, the story follows Aldó, a doctor grappling with despair after losing his family in the Holocaust. His life takes a turn when he meets Klára, a 16-year-old patient who has also suffered immense loss. As they form a bond, they help each other heal and rediscover love amidst their trauma. However, their growing connection faces challenges from the oppressive political climate, including Stalinist purges and impending revolution, testing their newfound family ties in a turbulent world.
