Ordinary Times; Extraordinary Measures

Set in the 1930s, the story follows Neomi Jean Hattisburg, a young Black woman grappling with her identity in a racially divided society. Raised by a railroad porter and a domestic worker, she is instilled with strong values of faith and respect. However, her appearance, which resembles that of a White person, complicates her interactions with both White and Black communities, leading to confusion and a profound exploration of race and self-acceptance.
