Set in 1972 Nigeria, the narrative follows Elizabeth Deeks as she teaches at the Vining Christian Leadership Centre in Akure. As the Women's Warden, she creates a course for the wives of catechist trainees, addressing the challenges faced by women who are often uneducated and may not speak the local languages. The classroom environment is unique, allowing mothers to bring young children, while Elizabeth also manages the Centre's Dispensary, providing medical assistance to students.
