Pains and Gains of Ethnic Multilingual Learners in China

Focusing on the experiences of two female multilingual students from ethnic minorities in Yunnan, this ethnographic case study explores their navigation of the Chinese higher education system. It examines the interplay between university policies, curricula, and personal learning histories, highlighting the challenges faced by these learners. The study delves into their identity construction and the impact of multiculturalism as an educational discourse, suggesting it may alleviate tensions related to their ethnic minority status and national identity.
