Focusing on the reflections of poets, this study explores the role of the Portuguese language in Angola's nation-building during and after its war of independence. It distinguishes between two phases: the first, during the war, where poets emphasized linguistic unity and identity, and the second, post-war, marked by civil strife, where writers employed postmodern techniques to critique earlier utopian ideals. The essay sheds light on both political and social movements, alongside the evolution of literature in Angola during this transformative period.
