Set in 1932, the story follows eight-year-old Nora as she navigates life at the Park Ridge School for Girls, where she and her sister Patsy face the harsh treatment of the house matron, Mrs. Morris. Torn from their mother, Nora grapples with the uncertainty of their situation, especially as Mrs. Morris insinuates their mother’s questionable reputation.
