En savoir plus sur le livre

The history of public service broadcasting is marked by resistance and the quest for independence. Octavio Penna Pieranti demonstrates that this occurs in East-Central Europe as well as in Brazil. Aside from the physical distance, there are many similarities as to how public service broadcasting is built in both regions, such as the origin of the transformation of state broadcasters, the lack of resources, the weak regulatory structure, and organized segments of civil society willing to discuss the issue. This book is the result of a postdoctoral study conducted in the Faculty of Communication at the University of Brasilia, in which the author compared legislation from 20 countries and interviewed public service broadcasting professionals, numerous authorities and researchers who helped recount the final days of state broadcasters and their transition towards a public service broadcasting model which still presents a few challenges. Despite being the result of a postdoctoral study, this book is intended not only for researchers, but also for all students and professionals interested in the debate about public service broadcasting.
