Following a suggestion from a reviewer of the first volume, the Author has included marginal notes indicating the various sources for the narrative, including manuscript letters from the Record Office, complete with dates to aid those seeking detailed information. Sir Collingwood Dickson is acknowledged first for his significant contributions, particularly for entrusting the letters and journals of his distinguished father to the Author. Captain G. E. W. Malet, R.A., also receives recognition for his valuable work, particularly evident in the tables at the end of the volume. The published writings of Captain H. W. L. Hime, R.A., have further enriched the narrative.
