Hiding from a demented wife, Slate Morgan flees to the village of Peebles, Ohio where he obtains a job teaching in the school. He meets and befriends Silver Black, another teacher, who is also being stalked by an abusive past. Although they aren't lovers, someone thinks they are, and is determined to break up their friendship.
