"These are true stories. I was born in Amsterdam before World War II. My father had lost his right arm when he was 17 years old. My mother married him against her father's advice and since you needed parental permission until the age of 25, I was conceived prior to their marriage.I was a mean child. At least that is what they said. But I did fight and work hard for what I thought was right and fair. They also said that I was "my Dad's right arm" because I was allowed to help him with everything.I want you to know that during the war and thereafter I was never hungry, was always clothed, and was a content and happy child most of the time.I don't want you to feel sorry for me, but teach your children right from wrong, that people should be allowed different opinions, and that they don't have to agree with everything they are told."
