A special agency of censors was organized to enforce regulations regarding the sanctity of animal life and filial piety, extending to all societal classes, including the royal family. Volume II, covering the period from the Sixth Century B.C. to the Mohammedan Conquest, including Alexander the Great's invasion, is authored by British scholar Vincent Arthur Smith. It offers engaging insights into the dynasties preceding Alexander, his campaign in India, the imperial monarch Asoka Maurya, the Indo-Greek and Indo-Parthian dynasties, the Gupta Empire, the white Huns, the reign of Harsha, and the medieval northern kingdoms. This replica of the original 1906 edition includes all illustrations from that time.
