Although we are all suspended in planetary networks, composed and configured through economic, political and cultural powers, once brought to earth and grounded in an image, a sound, a poetics, such processes and procedures acquire unsuspected shape and critical immediacy. The enclosed essays seek to explore some of the historical forces and cultural perspectives that are sustained in the postcolonial framing and reception of such images.
