En savoir plus sur le livre

Multiphase flows are crucial in various technical applications, particularly in sensor technology and process engineering. Understanding the dynamic behavior of liquid droplets in gas flows is essential for ensuring the proper functioning of key processes. Factors such as flow conditions, interface properties, and wetting behavior significantly influence droplet dynamics. The complexity increases when considering obstacle geometries, external forces, or diverse fluid properties. Numerical flow simulation serves as an effective tool for examining these intricate flow processes. This work presents results from a numerical investigation into droplet behavior influenced by external forces and interactions with wall-mounted obstacles. It explores a variety of droplet properties, two surface types, external effects like gravity, gas flow, vibrational excitations, and different obstacle heights. The study builds upon an existing numerical implementation of contact angle hysteresis, enhancing its universal applicability. The optimized method was validated against experimental results, providing new insights into droplet dynamics. By analyzing droplet deformation and breakup in relation to wall-bounded obstacles with rectangular cross-sections, an empirical dimensionless representation was developed, enabling the categorization and prediction of droplet phenomena based on process parameters.
