The 5Cs Positive Teacher Interpersonal Behaviors

Implications for Learner Empowerment and Learning in an L2 Context

En savoir plus sur le livre

This book argues that positive teacher-student interpersonal relationships are crucial for empowering students to achieve favorable academic outcomes and effectively learn a second/foreign language (L2) at affective, behavioral, and cognitive levels. Understanding how teacher interpersonal behaviors impact students' learning gains in second language acquisition (SLA) is vital, especially since this area of research is still developing and existing empirical evidence remains inconclusive. Using a mixed methods design, the book aims to empirically examine the role of "5Cs" positive teacher interpersonal variables—care, clarity, closeness, confirmation, and credibility—in influencing L2 students' learning outcomes through the mediation of perceived learner empowerment in Iran's L2 context. Additionally, it seeks to demonstrate how L2 teacher educators, teachers, and materials developers can create interpersonally rich language learning environments to enhance students' L2 learning. The chapters include an overview of theoretical frameworks, empirical background, study design, results, and conclusions with pedagogical implications and future research directions.
