Geology of Jordan

Jordan offers the geologist an excellent insight into the composition and structure of the pre-Cambrian rodcs on the northern border of the Nubo-Arabian Shield. Thanks to good exposures the sedimentary conditions on the southern border of the fluctuating Tethys continuously changing since the Cambrian period, are accessible to examination. In this area the stable shelf is turning over to the mobile shelf. At a certain impressive part of the East-African and North-Syrian Grabenzone, the Wadi Araba-Jordan valley, findings can be gained of the structure and development of an old-established geosuture in the earth's crust.
