En savoir plus sur le livre

When, in the early 1840s, Harriet Renshawe inherited her father's estate in Devonshire, she was determined to continue her family's tradition of caring for the welfare of the villagers of Merriott. But Roger Bryden, faced with an equally serious responsibility, seemed likely to destroy everything she held dear when he arrived at Merriott with plans to industrialise the quiet valley. Harriet, seeking help from Edward Singleton, a handsome, eligible baronet from London who shared her ideals, soon realised that he was less understanding of her problems than the man who had created them. Her difficulties increased by a family scandal, the constant demands of her spoiled cousin Letty, and her own conflicting loyalties, Harriet believed herself defeated until a chance remark showed her a solution which would ensure the continuing peace of the village and lead to her own future happiness.
