Theodor Fontane's work encompasses five volumes, each exploring different regions of Brandenburg. The first volume, covering the Grafschaft Ruppin, was created between 1859 and 1861, with its first print in 1862, and has undergone several revisions, following the 1892 Wohlfeilen edition. The second volume, Das Oderland, was written from 1860 to 1863, with its first publication in 1863, also adhering to the 1892 edition. The third volume, Havelland, spans 1863 to 1872, first printed in 1873, and follows the same 1892 text. Spreeland, the fourth volume, was developed between 1859 and 1881, first published in 1882, and likewise follows the Wohlfeilen edition. The final volume, Funf Schlosser, was created between 1880 and 1888, first published in 1889. This new edition is presented in a large format (210 x 297 mm) with a two-column layout and is edited by Karl-Maria Guth. The text is based on the comprehensive works of Fontane, edited by notable scholars across various volumes published by Nymphenburger Verlagshandlung between 1959 and 1975.
