    K-PAX. Un astre verdoyant, paradisiaque, sans guerres ni famines. Une utopie ? Non. Cette planète existe, à 7 000 années-lumière de la Terre. Le dénommé prot la connaît bien : il en vient. C'est du moins ce qu'il tente d'expliquer au Dr Brewer, directeur de l'Institut psychiatrique de Manhattan, qui refuse, comme il se doit, de croire à l'origine extraterrestre de son patient. Pourtant, ses certitudes vont vaciller. Car les connaissances astronomiques et scientifiques de prot sont prodigieuses... Qui donc est prot, qui dit se déplacer à la vitesse de la lumière, se nourrit exclusivement de fruits, et dont la présence semble métamorphoser les malades mentaux de l'Institut ? Un alien ? Ou un schizophrène ? Ce roman paru en 1995, à mi-chemin entre le conte philosophique et l'enquête psychanalytique, vient d'être adapté à l'écran par Iain Softley, avec Kevin Spacey et Jeff Bridges.

A doktor Brewer, Robertův a protův psychiatr, má opět omezený čas na to, aby odhalil protova tajemství a vrátil Roberta zpět do života. To ale bude muset prot odletět – a s ním vybraná stovka lidských bytostí, která chce žít na dokonalé planetě K-Pax. Protovy světy uzavírají příběh o nevšedním bláznu v našem dosti krvelačném světě. Na konci knihy se čtenář dočká i protovy svérázné, ironické a upřímné zprávy o Zemi.

    A New visitor arrives from K-PAX. Fled is outspoken, belligerent, very promiscuous, and resembles more than anything else a large chimpanzee. When she returns she will be taking 100,000 people with her. Dr. B agrees to "host" the visitor at the Manhattan Psychiatric Institute hoping she will be able to do something for the hospital's difficult mental patients. Fled soon becomes pregnant, and the father could be anyone-a chimpanzee, a gorilla, or a human, possibly even one of the patient. As the departure date draws near, the reader will find himself gripped by the questions of who will be going wither and will the CIA be able to prevent her from "kidnapping" any American citizens.
