Když se najde pod kostelní věží jeho mrtvé tělo, vypadá to zpočátku na nešťastnou náhodu, brzy je však jasné, že jde o vraždu. Do vyšetřování se na vlastní pěst pouští mladičký detektiv, spolužák syna inspektora Felse, který ve zdech starého opatství najde nejen vraha, ale i motiv rafinovaného zločinu.
