Welcome to the European Conference on Software Architecture (ECSA), the leading European software engineering event. ECSA serves as a platform for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss recent, innovative findings in software architecture. The fourth edition builds on a successful history of European workshops and conferences held from 2004 to 2009, with the last event merging with the 8th Working IEEE/IFIP Conference on Software Architecture (WICSA). ECSA 2010 expanded its traditional program, which includes keynote talks, a main research track, and a poster session, to include an industry track, doctoral symposium track, and a tool demonstration track. Additionally, workshops and tutorials on various software architecture topics were offered. The conference received over 100 submissions across three main categories: full research and experience papers, emerging research papers, and research challenges papers. It attracted contributions from researchers, practitioners, and academics representing 30 countries, including Algeria, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States, showcasing a diverse range of perspectives in the field.

    • The PROFES Organizing Committee is pleased to present the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Product-Focused Software Process Improvement (PROFES 2010) held in Limerick, Ireland. Since its inception in 1999, this conference has become a respected event in the software engineering community, uniting participants from both academia and industry. PROFES focuses on professional software process improvement driven by the need for quality in products and services. It addresses practical solutions alongside relevant academic research. To maintain high standards and relevance, the conference collaborates closely with industry and has expanded its scope to include collaborative and agile software development. This year's main themes were “Agile and Lean Processes” and “Engineering Service-Oriented Systems,” which allowed for a thorough exploration of contemporary software development demands and trends. The conference tackled significant challenges identified by both the software industry and research community, particularly the shift from a focus on "products" to "services." The technical program included invited talks, research papers, and experience reports on key topics related to developing software-intensive services and products, along with various workshops and tutorials.

A software architecture reflects critical early design decisions that shape a system’s development, deployment, and evolution, making effective architectural decision-making a significant challenge in software engineering. Knowledge management in this field involves capturing practical experiences and translating them into generalized architectural knowledge, facilitating communication with stakeholders throughout the software lifecycle. This book offers a concise overview of knowledge management within software architecture, emphasizing its importance for enhancing architecture processes and products. It clarifies the role of knowledge management in both software architecture and development processes, presenting various approaches currently utilized in software companies, as well as those from other domains and emerging academic research. Following an introductory section by the editors, contributions are organized into three parts: "Architecture Knowledge Management," "Strategies and Approaches for Managing Architectural Knowledge," and "Tools and Techniques for Managing Architectural Knowledge." Targeting IT and software engineering professionals, particularly software architects and researchers, the book provides a comprehensive understanding of knowledge management's role in improving software architecture processes and capabilities. For researchers, it highlights the application of knowledge management approaches in ind
